Patient Participation Group (PPG)

What is a Patient Participation Proup?

GP Practice’s have a PPG (Patient Participation Group) which generally consists of a group of volunteers who are Patients at the surgery and want to help improve the service offered. PPG participants meet as a group with the Practice Manager and other representatives from the practice (for example, some clinicians or our admin team) on a number of occasions during the year.

It is an opportunity for the practice to update patients on the work they have been doing as well as a chance for patients to offer feedback and ideas of ways they think we could improve or enhance the service. PPG members can also offer practical support in a variety of ways:

  1. Informing us of your patient experience
  2. Volunteering – for example at our Covid/Flu vaccination clinics or our coffee morning.
  3. Empowering other patients
  4. Be a sounding board for new ideas
  5. Fundraising
  6. Offering suggestions on improving services

How often does the PPG meet?

The PPG will meet a few times a year, probably quarterly. We know that you are busy, so we really appreciate the time you would be taking out of your day to join our meetings. If you are unable to join our meetings face to face, we always provide the option for you to join virtually/online. If you do join us face to face, we even provide refreshments.

Will my views be heard?

It is really important for us to hear your views. Your experiences matter to us and any views or ideas you may have can help us improve our services. We want to publicise the successes of the practice, involve patients in decisions we are making and expand our services to improve patient care.

The PPG is an opportunity to improve the practice; it is not a place to raise individual complaints or concerns: there are a number of other options to do that.
